Our children’s program is designed to support youth in foster care, involved with Children’s Services, or healing from trauma and adverse experiences.
Using trauma-informed, horse-assisted approaches, we create a safe and supportive environment where children can rebuild trust, develop emotional regulation, and experience genuine connection — often for the first time. Horses have a unique ability to meet children where they are, without judgment.
This program is rooted in prevention and early intervention. By helping children process trauma, build emotional awareness, and develop healthy coping skills, we aim to reduce the risk of long-term mental health challenges, substance use, and instability later in life.
This program reflects our long-term vision and will be developed as land and resources become available.
As this program develops, we plan to explore partnerships with local agencies to support families navigating difficult transitions, including reunification and supervised visitation.
Our goal is to provide a calm, nature-based environment where parents and children can reconnect in a way that feels safe, supported, and less clinical—complementing existing services, not replacing them.
In honor of Virgil, we are launching Virgil’s Circle — a free, community-based peer support program for adults navigating grief, addiction recovery, mental health challenges, and life transitions.
Virgil’s Circle provides a safe, respectful space where individuals can share, listen, and connect without judgment. Location is American legion in Marengo, Ohio. For times, please follow us on our Facebook Page at Virgil Louie Foundation.
Virgil’s Circle is rooted in prevention and early intervention.
Many individuals do not seek support until they are in crisis. By offering a consistent and welcoming space for open conversation, Virgil’s Circle helps individuals access support earlier — reducing isolation and lowering the risk of worsening mental health challenges and substance use relapse.
When individuals feel supported, the impact extends beyond the individual.
Virgil’s Circle helps:
strengthen family stability
improve emotional awareness
support healthier relationships
connect individuals to local resources
This contributes to healthier environments for children and a stronger, more connected community.
Virgil’s Circle is:
Not therapy
Not clinical treatment
Not a substitute for professional care: We encourage participants to seek professional support when needed and provide local resource information at each meeting.
We are developing a structured reentry program to support individuals returning to the community. This program will focus on stability, purpose, and connection, with the goal of reducing recidivism and supporting long-term success.
Not every rescued horse is able to participate in programming — and that’s okay. The Virgil Louie Foundation is committed to providing permanent sanctuary for horses with significant trauma histories.
Our property will include open land where horses can simply live freely, heal on their own terms, and never be asked to perform.
